This webinar is designed for MPOs and other regional planning organizations to introduce the concepts of asset management and to show how several MPOs are using asset management to improve the effectiveness of how available funds are being used.

Managing assets cost-effectively requires agencies to consider all costs over the life of an asset: construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation activities. MAP-21 promotes the use of a LCA in a TAMP as a way of demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of different preservation strategies. Traditionally, agency investment decisions have focused on individual projects that address the needs of a single asset, such as a pavement or bridge. As agencies have advanced their asset management practices, there has been increasing interest in establishing investment strategies that cross the traditional silos. During this webinar, the TAM ETG will present its White Paper on the topic and delve into this topic in detail with a panel of state DOT executives.

The March 30-31, 2016 TAM ETG meeting in Dallas, Texas was hosted by Chris Evilia of the Waco MPO at the North Central Texas Council of Governments conference facility. The meeting included discussion and presentations on a range of topics from perpetuation of the TAM ETG to case studies in TAM implementation in Texas to international TAM activities.

The FHWA Transportation Asset Management Expert Task Group (TAM ETG) met November 5 and 6, 2014 at the New York State DOT Hunter’s Point Plaza facility. The TAM ETG covered four general topics including:

• Identification of topics related to upcoming webinars, PowerPoint presentations and peer exchanges;
• Discussion of white paper topics covering:
  • Strategies for Building Organizational Asset Management Competencies.
  • How to Integrate the Asset Management Plans and Objectives into the Planning, Programming, Project-delivery and Maintenance Activities of Agencies;
• MPO consideration in transportation asset management programs;
• Developing a TAM research roadmap.
