Abstract:

Caltrans is investigating the business practice of transportation asset management (TAM). The department has a particular interest in the current state of the practice for using cross-asset, or multiobjective asset, optimization to prioritize projects and identify resource needs across assets, functions and goals. To aid in this effort, this Preliminary Investigation presents the results of an investigation of the TAMrelated processes of other state departments of transportation (DOTs) and an examination of completed and in-process domestic and international research that addresses the current state of the practice in applying cross-asset optimization in TAM.
